The possible scope depends on the treatment needed and the condition of each tooth. Besides the time needed to make the prosthesis, root canal treatment, gum condition, and follow-up checks after treatment must also be considered.

This time, a patient who came from the United States October 5 and 6, 2026received crown replacement, root canal retreatment, a ceramic inlay, and resin fillings at Smile Digital Dental Clinic during their stay in Busan. This is that case.

The two days in this post refer to this patient's treatment schedule. Several teeth had existing prostheses and cavities that needed attention, and the right front tooth needed root canal retreatment.

Because several teeth needed treatment, we examined the condition of each tooth and the remaining tooth structure, and also checked the contact between teeth and the overall bite. Based on the examination results, we planned the treatment order and the prosthesis fabrication schedule.

The treatments performed during this schedule were as follows.

Root canal retreatment and crown treatment of the right front tooth

Replacement of 3 existing crowns on the lower premolars on both sides

Ceramic inlay on the left lower premolar

Resin treatment of 3 cavities between the front teeth

October 5, 2026 · Record of oral condition before treatment

October 5, 2026 · Record of the biting surfaces of the upper and lower teeth

2. Root Canal Retreatment and Crown Treatment of the Right Front Tooth

Root canal retreatment is the process of treating again the root canal, the space inside the tooth root, of a tooth that has previously had root canal treatment. We check the existing filling material and the condition of the canal, then carry out the necessary procedures.

For this patient, after root canal retreatment of the right front tooth, the crown was replaced in consideration of the remaining tooth structure.

Radiograph record related to root canal retreatment of the right front tooth

The number of visits and the duration of root canal retreatment can vary depending on the canal structure, the state of infection, and how difficult it is to remove the existing filling material. Even when the procedure is carried out in a short schedule as in this case, whether the tissue around the root recovers must be confirmed through later follow-up.

Placing the crown does not mean the long-term outcome of the root canal retreatment has been confirmed.

3. Replacing 3 Crowns on the Lower Premolars

On the lower premolars on both sides, 3 existing crowns were replaced. A crown is a prosthesis that covers the entire tooth, and when replacing one, the condition of the tooth underneath must be examined as well as the existing prosthesis.

When making a new prosthesis, we check how well it fits the tooth, its contact with neighboring teeth, and how the upper and lower teeth meet. In this case, we used the in-house digital prosthesis fabrication system to plan the schedule for several prostheses together.

Record marking the lower premolar crown replacement sites

4. Ceramic Inlay and Front Tooth Resin Treatment

On the left lower premolar, after removing the decay, a ceramic inlay was made and bonded. An inlay is a treatment in which a restoration made separately to fit the missing part of the tooth is bonded in place.

The tooth treated this time was the left lower second premolar, #35. Based on the intraoral scan data, it was designed on a computer, milled with in-house equipment, and bonded on the same day after checking the fit and bite.

Intraoral scan → Computer design → In-house milling → Fit and bite check → Bonding

Explanatory image to help understand how a ceramic inlay is made

Not every cavity needs an inlay. Depending on the extent of damage and the remaining tooth structure, resin or another restorative method may be chosen.

The 3 cavities between the front teeth were treated with resin. Resin restoration restores the shape of the tooth by applying the material directly to the area where decay was removed. On front teeth, we also consider the shape of the restored area, the color of the surrounding teeth, and the contact between teeth.

Even after a resin restoration, discoloration, wear, fracture, or new decay nearby can occur, so ongoing care is needed.

5. Follow-Up Is Still Needed After the Two Days of Treatment

October 6, 2026 · Record of oral condition after treatment

Over October 5 and 6, the patient received the planned root canal retreatment, crown replacement, ceramic inlay, and front tooth resin treatment.

Although the necessary procedures were carried out in this schedule, bite adjustment or additional treatment may still be needed later depending on symptoms and the condition of the teeth. For teeth that have had root canal treatment in particular, follow-up to check symptoms and changes in the tissue around the root is important.

Tooth color may look different in photos depending on shooting conditions, and the long-term course of treatment cannot be judged from records taken at a single point in time.

6. What Should You Consider for a Short Stay?

At Smile Digital Dental Clinic, we record tooth shape with an intraoral scanner, design the prosthesis with CAD/CAM, and make it in our in-house dental lab.

This approach may help reduce some of the waiting time in making a prosthesis. However, digital fabrication does not shorten the time needed for root canal treatment, gum treatment, or tissue recovery.

If your stay is fixed, first confirm the treatable scope and the number of visits needed based on the examination results. It is also good to discuss how to get in touch if discomfort occurs after treatment and the follow-up schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can I get crown treatment if I only visit Busan briefly?
If the condition of the tooth and the conditions for making the prosthesis are suitable, it can sometimes be done in a short schedule. However, if root canal or gum treatment is needed first, the schedule may change.

Q. Can a ceramic inlay be bonded on the same day?
If the oral condition and fabrication conditions are suitable, scanning, making, and bonding can be done on the same day. Depending on the extent of the cavity and the condition of the tooth, other treatment or an additional visit may be needed.

Q. Can root canal retreatment also be finished in a day or two?
In some cases the procedure can be carried out in a short period, but this does not apply to every tooth. Even after the procedure, symptoms and recovery of the tissue around the root must be checked.

A Plan That Fits the Condition of Your Teeth Comes First

This is an individual case in which several teeth were treated within a two-day stay. Even for the same treatment, the duration varies depending on the condition of the teeth and any preliminary treatment required.

If you are planning dental treatment during a visit to Busan, please let us know your available dates and your existing treatment information in advance. The proper order is to confirm the treatment scope, schedule, and follow-up care plan together based on the examination results.

Related information: Digital Esthetic Dentistry · Reservation / Inquiry

References: American Association of Endodontists — Guide to Root Canal Retreatment

Directions to Smile Digital Dental Clinic

Address: 9F, 19 Saessak-ro, Busanjin-gu, Busan
Transportation: about 190 m (3–4 minutes) on foot from Exit 9 of Seomyeon Station
Phone: 051-808-7528

Map to Smile Digital Dental Clinic

This post is intended to provide information about an individual treatment case and does not guarantee the effect or outcome of any specific treatment.
