What teeth whitening options are available before the wedding?

Teeth whitening is broadly divided into professional whitening done at the dental clinic and at-home whitening with a custom tray. Professional whitening uses a whitening agent and a light source and is done in a single visit; for at-home whitening, a tray is made to fit your teeth and a low-concentration whitening agent is used at home. The two can also be combined, and which method suits you is decided after an examination, depending on the condition of your teeth and your schedule.

What we check before whitening

Before whitening, we first check for cavities, sensitivity, and gum inflammation. Existing crowns and resin fillings do not change color with whitening agents, so we also review at the consultation whether a color difference may appear after whitening. If you are pregnant, or have a cracked tooth, severe sensitivity, or untreated cavities or gum disease, whitening may be postponed or another method may be recommended.

If you are planning laminate veneers, there are also cases in which whitening was done first, and the laminates were made after checking the color, shape, and bite of the front teeth. You can see the process in Laminate Veneers in Seomyeon, Busan: Treating Six Front Teeth After Teeth Whitening.

Sensitivity may occur temporarily after whitening, and staining habits such as coffee, tea, and smoking can cause the color to change again, so we guide you on how to care for your teeth. The whitening effect, the degree of color change, and how long it lasts vary from person to person, and no specific result is guaranteed. If you let us know your wedding or photo shoot date in advance, we will guide you on the available methods and number of visits. For more details, see Seomyeon teeth whitening guide.

Please note

The times and visit counts above describe typical cases. Gum condition, remaining tooth structure and bone volume can add visits, and if same-day work is not advisable we explain why first. An examination and consultation are required before treatment.
