Full Implants With a Digital Guide in Busan Seomyeon: A Case of a Man in His 70s

Cover image: surgical treatment process using digital implants

Hello
From the heart of Seomyeon,
drawing tomorrow's smile,
This is Smile Digital Dental Clinic 🙂
Today, using digital implants,
we would like to post about a full-mouth implant case!

Treatment Stage 1
Why the Patient Visited
Panoramic X-ray before implant and crown treatment

He is a man in his 70s.
Many of his crowns had cracked,
and some of his teeth were in poor condition,
so he wanted crowns and implants
and came to visit us.

Treatment Stage 2
Diagnosis and Treatment Plan
Panoramic X-ray marking the crown remake and implant placement plan

Most of his crowns were broken,
and apart from the lower right molar area,
the condition of his teeth and implants was poor,
so we decided to remake the crowns and place implants.

Treatment Stage 3
Treatment in Progress
Panoramic X-ray marking the implant positions and the restoration connection plan

We showed the patient in a picture how the implants would be placed
and then carried out the treatment.

In addition, the patient had previously had PFM restorations,
but his bite force is strong, so the restorations were all broken.

Comparison of a PFM crown with a metal inner layer and a zirconia crown

PFM is a restoration with a metal inner layer
and an outer layer made of porcelain,
and in people with a strong bite the metal holds up,
but the porcelain on the outside often cracks.

At Smile Digital Dental Clinic, we use zirconia for all implants (excluding insurance coverage) in every case!

We carry out every implant as a digital implant.
After scanning the patient's mouth with an intraoral scanner,
the director personally performs simulated surgery to make a guide,
and the surgery is performed with the guide in place.

Because the surgery is done as digital implant surgery,
Because gum incision can be kept to a minimum, compared with a conventional implant
It may be less painful, and in some cases the surgery time can be shortened.
It also helps carry out the surgery according to the planned position.

Computer-designed temporary teeth shown with the implant positions

After the implant surgery, we use a computer to
design the temporary teeth in 3D, so that after surgery
the patient gets not an uncomfortable denture,
but temporary teeth shaped much like crowns,
which will be placed.
A denture irritates the implant site before it has fully healed
and is very uncomfortable,
but temporary teeth are similar to ordinary crowns,
so you can return to daily life right after surgery without discomfort
and eat freely. After using the temporary teeth until the bone has fully healed,
we move on to the final crowns!

Treatment Stage 4
Final Restoration (Before and After)

Here are the finished photos.
After checking that the implants had bonded well to the bone,
these are the photos after the crowns were completed!

Here are the before and after photos.
Can you see the clear difference?
Because all the restorations (since crowns were placed) are made of zirconia,
the risk of the teeth breaking is much lower.
Even now, a year later,
the patient keeps coming in for regular checkups,
and he is using them very well without any problems ^^

– Treatment results may differ from person to person,
so please
have a thorough consultation with your dental team.

If you are considering digital implants together with crown treatment, we recommend first checking the condition of your existing restorations, your remaining teeth, and your jawbone, and then discussing the treatment order and materials. Even with the same method, the plan and the result can differ depending on your oral condition and bite force, and how long the restorations last can also vary with your recovery after surgery and how you care for them. At Smile Digital Dental Clinic in Seomyeon, we explain an individual treatment plan based on information checked with CT and intraoral scans.

How is digital implant surgery different?

A digital implant is a method in which the surgical position is planned in advance from CT and intraoral scan data and the plan is transferred to a guide for surgery. A digital implant does not guarantee the same effect or result for every patient, and the method can differ depending on the gums and bone. Treatment time and results vary from person to person.
